What is Faith? According to the Bible

The faith is known as the set of beliefs of a religion, certain expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities even though they are not contemplated. It comes from the Latin fideswhich means 'loyalty, 'fidelity'..

In the New Testamentthe word "faith" comes from the Greek pistis, which denotes a belief determined by overriding trust, either in God or in Jesus Christ, arising from faith in them, Faith means confidence, assurance, certainty, and conviction.

What is faith?

Faith is the cornerstone of Christianityis the main one of the three virtues theological, faith, hope and charity. Without demonstrating faith and trust in God we have no place with him. We believe in the existence of God by faith, to have faith in God is to believe in his existence, his omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience.

Which is faith, in Hebrews 11:1, the Bible defines faith as:

"the certainty of what is hoped for, the conviction of what is not seen".

Therefore, faith is the essence or certainty of something we hope for and have not received; in a certain way, faith (assurance, conviction, confidence) gives us evidence of what we cannot see the spiritual and invisible. The faith is manifested before we receive an answer to a prayer or something we have asked God for, for once He gives it to us, faith is no longer necessary.

The Bible has much more to say about faith and how important it is. In fact, it is so important that without faith we have no place with God, and it is impossible to please him. Faith is the belief in the one true God, without actually seeing him.

"For the invisible qualities of him are clearly seen from the creation of the world onward, because they are perceived by the things that are made, even his everlasting power and Godhead" (Romans 1:20).

Faith is not something that comes with us by birth nor do we conspire on our part, it is not obtained by our power or our will, it is a gift that comes from God along with his grace and mercy, according to his holy plan and purpose, and for that he receives all the glory. We must have faith to please God, it pleases him that we believe in him.

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that "Without faith it is impossible to be acceptable to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists and that he becomes a rewarder of those who diligently seek him" "he is a rewarder of those who seek him".

This does not mean that we have faith in God just to get something from him. However, God wants to bless those who are obedient and faithful. For this reason, the Bible stresses the importance of striving to seek him, to get to know him well. By faith we please God, we believe that he is true and that we can trust in his promises.

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." (James 4:8).

When we say that we have faith in GodWe can see that he is real in our lives and that he is the one who can grant our requests, our most longed-for dreams and give us eternal life. This affirmation pleases and gladdens the heart of our God. That faith in him affirms that we know that he has all power.

In his word God affirms to us that there is no other God, he does not stop at words, he goes further and reveals himself to us. If we are attentive and give him a chance, we can experience his touch in our hearts and the strength he grants us to live a life that demonstrates that he is the Lord of our heart.

I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides me there is no other God. Though you do not know me, I will strengthen you, so that they may know from East to West that there is no other besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:5-6)

Where Faith Comes From, How We Acquire It

Faith is a gift from God, and we acquire it because our Lord Jesus Christ places faith in the heart of the human being and this determines where to deposit it. If we place our faith in Jesus We choose to believe that his coming to earth, all his sacrifice on the cross for us and the miracles were a reality and unveil the door for us to receive salvation and eternal life.

The measure of faith that God gives us

To enjoy the gift of faith requires a great deal of humility and modesty, to see ourselves as we are, not to appear false, to be human and finite. The faith by which we recognize our need for him is made to his measure. We can increase that faith to the extent that we allow him to work in our hearts and transform us more into his image.

By the grace given to me, I say to all of you: Let no one think of himself more highly of himself than he ought to think, but rather let him think of himself in moderation, according to the measure of faith God has given him.
(Romans 12:3).

Faith is manifested through our actions, words and decisions.

For this reason it is necessary to act at the moment we receive our salvation, faith begins in the depths of our heart we must preach what God has done in us with great confidence and so every day our faith increases, and we will be justified and saved.

This is the word of faith that we preach: That, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes in order to be justified, but with the mouth one confesses in order to be saved. (Romans 10:8-10)

We must believe that God's promises are true and will be fulfilled.

We must have the ability to trust that God continues to fulfill His promises, He wants and desires to heal, sorry and save. We can pray in the name of Jesus and say "amen" because God is still faithful, he is still the same God, his ministry on earth was a service of power, healing and salvation.

All the promises God has made are "yes" in Christ. So through Christ we answer "amen" to the glory of God. (2 Cor.1:20)

Importance of Faith

By faith we receive forgiveness and salvation,  God loved us so much that He sent His own sonJesus, to die for us. And it is our faith in Jesus and the power of believing in him, that through this faith we receive the forgiveness of our sins and go on to enjoy eternal life.

By the Faith we profess we receive Jesus in our hearts, that the Holy Spirit strengthen our innermost souls so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith and abide in us forever.

Through our faith, we overcome all temptation and carnal tendencies. For it is undoubtedly faith that gives us the necessary strength to overcome any indecent and sinful temptation that comes our way, and to please God before falling into any temptation.

Faith is the Christian's shield of protectionthrough faith we are able to repel and drive away doubts because god does not leave us alone in the battles, with his shield he provides us with the necessary armor to overcome any obstacle, to stand firm in the face of temptation without declining at any time and always faithful to Jesus.
