All you need to know about Psalm 23 "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want" 1

Meaning of Psalm 23

The Author of this Psalm is David, who figures in the story of the biblein the books of the Prophet Samuel and as an author in the book of Psalms. He is also considered one of the great rulers of Israel and thus an emblematic figure in modern Zionism.

In the first two verses the author makes an analogy of our God with a good shepherd, who cares for and protects his flock of sheep in an exhaustive way, guiding them on the right path, always avoiding dangerous or risky places that deviate or derail the flock, always providing the necessary food so that they are satisfied and have well-being. In this way God also takes care of his sheep, which in this case are represented by all the faithful who seek protection and spiritual nourishment to grant emotional well-being, spiritual strengthas well as the union among the faithful.

Sheep that go astray and do not remain under your care run all kinds of risks. They can fall into rocky places and get injured or they can be attacked by wolves. When a sheep is separated from the herd, it is because it has wandered away from the shepherd, leaving it susceptible to the onslaught of wolves or enemies. The enemy can attack a person who has turned away from the word of God, from the prayerof faith, the obedience and to meet with other brothers and sisters. Jesus is our good shepherd, who has given his life for our good and protection. A family that prays in unity, a marriage who prays for his own relationship and for his children, is a force that unleashes the presence of the Lord. We must also take care as parents that our children are under the influence of God so that they are not exposed to being influenced by bad company that will lead them away from God's plan.

The expression "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want."Jesus represents the way, the door that opens to find what is necessary for our whole being. Jesus is the door that allows us access to that place of peace, rest, spiritual and material nourishment. God is our integral provider, He knows all our needs, both physical and spiritual. And focusing on Him, in prayer, is what God has made for us as His children.
